Home Cleanout Dumpster Rental in Odessa

A one-car garage usually fits a 10-yard dumpster, a two-car garage a 15-yard, and a whole house a 20 or 30-yard. Household junk is light, so a cleanout dumpster fills by space long before it reaches its included tons.

What size dumpster do I need for a cleanout?

A 10-yard dumpster fits most one-car garage cleanouts, and a 15-yard fits most two-car garages. A move-out or whole-house declutter usually fits a 20-yard. A packed house plus a garage, or a full estate cleanout, needs a 30-yard. Count garage bays and rooms, not boxes.

Starting points by cleanout. Pickup loads assume an 8-ft bed loaded level, about 2.5 cubic yards.
CleanoutUsual sizePickup loadsIncluded weight
One-car garage, attic or a few rooms10-yardabout 42 tons
Two-car garage or a small apartment15-yardabout 62.5 tons
Move-out or whole-house declutter20-yardabout 83 tons
Estate cleanout, house plus garage30-yardabout 124 tons

For light, bulky junk, round up. A second haul is billed as a new rental, and that costs more than one size up. Weight is rarely the limit on a cleanout, so the bigger size seldom adds overage.

How much does household junk weigh?

Mixed household junk weighs about 250 to 300 lb per cubic yard, by EPA conversion factors. A full 20-yard dumpster of household junk weighs about 5,000 to 6,000 lb, right at its 3 included tons. A full 10 or 15-yard stays under its limit, since household junk is light.

SizeFull of household junkIncluded
10-yard2,500–3,000 lb4,000 lb
15-yard3,750–4,500 lb5,000 lb
20-yard5,000–6,000 lb6,000 lb
30-yard7,500–9,000 lb8,000 lb

Move-out example: a 20-yard loaded about three-quarters full holds about 15 cubic yards. At 275 lb per cubic yard, that is about 4,125 lb, well under the 6,000 lb included. No overage, and room left for the last-day trash.

Worked example: a 30-yard estate cleanout loaded level at 300 lb per cubic yard. 30 × 300 = 9,000 lb, which is 1,000 lb over the 8,000 included. 1,000 lb is 0.5 tons, and 0.5 × $75 = $37.50, billed by the exact pound from the landfill scale ticket.

Old books, paper files, wet carpet and exercise weights are the heavy surprises in a cleanout. See how dumpster weight is billed.

Which cleanout items cost extra or can't go in?

Mattresses, automotive tires and appliances with Freon cost $50 each, because the landfill handles them separately. Hazardous chemicals, wet paint and batteries can't go in at all. Furniture, clothes, boxes, toys and yard tools go in with no item fee.

Refrigerator or freezer$50250 lb
Passenger tire$5022.5 lb

Fridges and freezers need their refrigerant recovered before disposal under EPA rule 40 CFR 82.155. That is why they carry a fee. Clear out paint cans, pool chemicals, motor oil and car batteries from the garage before you load. Confirm with your city, HOA or landfill for local drop-off options.

Where does a cleanout dumpster go?

A cleanout dumpster goes on the driveway in most homes. Our drivers lay wooden boards under the steel rails and rollers, so the dumpster sits on wood, not your concrete or asphalt. A spot in the street or alley needs city approval first, so the driveway is the simpler choice.

Clear cars, boats and trash cans from the spot. If the driver can't drop because of parked cars, low wires or a locked gate, a $125 trip fee applies. Street rules are on the Odessa dumpster permit page.

Do you have to be there for delivery?

Nobody needs to be home for delivery if the drop zone is clear. Book by 3 PM for guaranteed next-day delivery between 7 AM and 5 PM. The driver texts or calls 20–30 minutes before arriving, so a landlord, executor or out-of-town family can still book.

Same-day delivery costs a $50 rush fee and depends on a free truck.

Is a roll-off better than the alley dumpster or bulk pickup?

A roll-off is better for a cleanout bigger than a few bags, because city alley dumpsters are shared and fill fast. In April 2025, KOSA reported Odessa residents telling the city that alley dumpsters were filling with commercial waste. A 7-day roll-off holds the whole job in your own driveway.

For a handful of items, a junk hauler or bulk pickup can cost less. The dumpster vs junk removal guide shows when each one wins.

What if the cleanout takes longer than a week?

Every rental includes 7 days, and each extra day costs $25. An estate cleanout kept 10 days adds 3 days, or $75. If the dumpster fills before the house is empty, call for a swap: we haul the full one and drop an empty one, billed as a new rental.

A few habits make one dumpster go further on a cleanout:

  • Sort keep, donate and sell piles before the dumpster arrives, so only true junk goes in.
  • Load heavy items like dressers and appliances first, low and spread out.
  • Break down furniture, flatten boxes and fill gaps with bags.
  • Keep everything level with the top rim. An overfilled dumpster can't be hauled under Texas law, and the $125 trip fee applies.

The final invoice is emailed 3 to 5 business days after pickup, with the landfill scale ticket attached.

Cleanout dumpster rental questions

Do I need to be home when the dumpster is delivered?

You don't need to be home if the drop spot is clear. The driver texts or calls 20–30 minutes before arriving, so you know when the dumpster lands. Move cars and trash cans out of the way the night before, and leave the gate unlocked if the spot is behind one.

Can an estate executor book a cleanout from out of town?

Book by phone with the property address and a clear description of the drop spot. The driver calls or texts ahead, so a family member or neighbor only needs to clear the driveway. The final invoice and scale ticket are emailed 3 to 5 business days after pickup.

What will it cost to toss a mattress, a fridge and old tires?

Each mattress, each automotive tire and each Freon appliance costs $50, because the landfill handles them separately. One mattress, one fridge and four tires add $300 to the bill. Couches, dressers, tables and boxes of household junk carry no item fee.

Is a 20-yard big enough to empty a whole house?

A 20-yard dumpster holds about 8 pickup loads, assuming an 8-foot bed loaded level. That covers many move-outs and whole-house declutters. A house full of furniture plus a packed garage can need a 30-yard, which holds about 12 pickup loads. Tell us the rooms and garage bays on the phone.

How do I keep neighbors from filling my dumpster?

Park the dumpster where you can see it from the house, and pull a tarp over it at night. Anything a neighbor adds counts toward your weight and space. Banned items found in the load can also cause trouble at the landfill, so keep an eye on it.

Why not just leave the junk out for city bulk pickup?

City bulk pickup and alley dumpsters are shared and fill up. In April 2025, KOSA reported Odessa residents telling the city that neighborhood alley dumpsters were filling with commercial waste. A roll-off keeps a large cleanout off the alley and gets it done in one week.
